According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assisting is one of the nation's fastest growing careers. According to the American Association of Medical Assistants, Medical Assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the physician’s office and often explain the physician's instructions. They perform clinical duties that include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. In addition, Medical Assistants perform administrative duties such as answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, schedule appointments, arrange for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handle billing and bookkeeping.
